Following our recent CIPD exhibition in Manchester, where we engaged our visitors by asking them ‘What was their biggest Leap’? This was very encouraging to see such a diverse range of challenges and development activities achieved. Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) recognised this as a good engagement opportunity, which is a key theme for them this year.

Therefore, we are challenging you to commit to your development by doing something each week of 2014 that engages you.

Leap is a munemonic for this activity :
• Learn
• Engage
• Achieve
• Practice
And so can be anything that makes you think, assists you to reflect on your development and most importantly how you apply any new experience or learning to assist you with the work that you do.

The team here at leap like a salmon will be committing to their development and will share individual or team activities, to demonstrate our continuing professional development. As we have an eportfolio we will be using this to manage our development. If you want to do the same please do take a look:

For the first week and an appropriate start to the year we ask you to review your own development and assess your needs. Here are a few questions to get you thinking:
What do you achieve last year that you want to continue or develop further?
What did you do last year that did not go as well that you need to change and what did you learn about the situation or yourself?
What are your priorities?
What support and resources do you have?
How do you best learn?
What goals do you want to achieve?
How can you use social media more effectively?

Please do contact us to let us know your plans or if you have any questions for us, please comment on the blog. Collaboration will assist further learning and development.

Remember without a plan things don’t happen, so start today and commit to your development throughout 2014.

Look forward to engaging and collaborating with you.
